So you’re looking for an efficient machine to get you from point A to point B and back. Or maybe you’re busy in the city on weekdays and enjoy taking the weekends off for road trips, and you don’t want to be stopping too often at gas stations. Regardless of where your life takes you, efficiency is a big part of the equation, and Volkswagen vehicles are perfect for the job. VW sedans and SUVs are very fuel-efficient vehicles, capable of achieving excellent mileage in an out of the city. Let’s take a look at the numbers to learn more about Volkswagen fuel efficiency:
There’s no dispute about this: the Volkswagen Jetta is one of the most fuel-efficient vehicles out there. Consumer Reports hails the Jetta in their 2018 list of the Best & Worst Fuel Economy cars. In fact, the Jetta beats the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla on this list. You’re looking at 11.2 L/100 kilometres in the city, 6.0 L/100 km on the highway, and 7.8 L/100 km combined fuel economy. The 147-horsepower, 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine is no underachiever.
The New Tiguan
The 2018 model year is as competitive as ever, especially in the compact crossover segment. And Volkswagen is definitely okay with this level of pressure. For 2018, the company totally redesigned the Tiguan, adding a new, standard third row for those growing families out there. More legroom and cargo space have been added too, and despite the Tiguan being bigger this year, it still pulls off some excellent fuel economy numbers… The 2.0-litre turbocharged, direct-injection TSI four-cylinder engine achieves 11.3 L/100 km in the city, 8.8 L/100 km on the highway, and 10.2 L/100 km combined. These are impressive numbers, earning the Tiguan a place on Consumer Reports’ 2018 list.
The Volkswagen Atlas
Here’s yet another placement in Consumer Reports’ list of the most fuel-efficient vehicles. The VW Atlas is brand new for 2018. It’s a midsize crossover a step in size above the Tiguan (it’s actually bigger than the Touareg), and it plays another significant role in Volkswagen’s 2018 strategy to win over growing families. The Atlas has a 3.6L V-6 engine offering a good amount more power than the Tiguan and managing 13.0 L/100 kilometres in the city, 9.4 L/100 km on the highway, and 11.3 L/100 kilometres combined.
So there it is: the most efficient Volkswagen vehicles out there, all of them achieving some strong numbers compared to the competition. And the 2018 model year is about as exciting as it gets for Volkswagen, with the 2019 Jetta being recently announced, the Tiguan being redesigned for this year, and the Atlas being brand new for the new year. It’s a bright future for Volkswagen, and a brighter one for the environment too with these economical, efficient vehicles.
